LADIES' GOLF CLI B MRS. HOSKING'S CHAMPIONSHIP The final of the ladies' senior championship o£ the Taihape Golf Cluo was played on the Raukura links yesterday between Mrs. H. Hosking and Mrs. J. Quinn, and resulted in a win for Mrs. Hosking, 1 up, after a keen contest played under adverse conditions. Heavy rain was experienced during the latter stages of the match, making playing conditions extremely difficult but nevertheless the 18th hoie was halved in birdie fours. Mrs. Hosking was 2 up at the ninth but Mr* Quinn won the tenth and twelfth holes to square the match. The 13th and 14th were halved, but Mrs. Hosking became dormie two by winning Ihe Drive and Land End. Mrs. Quinn got one back at the 17th, while the 18th was halved in birdie lours, which was a splendid performance considering the state of the weather. Mrs. Hosking thus won a memorable match. I up. and becomes the holder of the ladies' senior championship cup. Members of the Taihape Golf Club will unite in congratulating the winner cn her success. She has played excellent golf this season and incidentally reduced her handicap to rive. Sirs Quinn is also to be complimented on the excellent fight she put up. Her play of late has been of a high standard. and although beaten by the narrowest of margins in the chain pionship she stored a convincing win in the final of the ladies knock-out competition played recently. Mrs. Hosking is leaving Taihape during the week-end to reside in V»cilington for about six months, and needlessm to say Taihape goiters will miss this popular player, and wish her the best of luck in the capita I TIKI. GOLF LINKS The Utiku golf links will be closed : on October 15 for the season. Members of the Taihape Club and neighbouring clubs ate invited Io attend. The prizes won during the season will be presented and af’ernoon tea will t b* provided. RAISING MONEY FOR WAR A meeting of all bodies and personinterested in raising money for war , purposes and patriotic work of all i kinds will be held in the Council i Chambers at the Town Hall. M< • Kenzic met in the semi-final of the i knock-out. competition, which pro-1 \ ides for match play on handicap, i Mortland had to concede McKenzie 11 , stroke- and despite the fact that the I Taihape champion was round in 34 j in the second nine holes he finished ; .ill square with McKenzie, who scored a sensational three at the 15th. hole Tlv Drive> at a critical stage of the match. Mortland was 2 up playing the 15th. and a win at this hole would have made him dormy three, but McKenzie sank a long putt from the edge of the green to halve the hole in threes. Mortland was 1 up and 2 to play when he drove off at the 17th. hole. His tee shot, finished on the edge of the green, but his first putt was short and he carded a four. McKenzie also registered a four and won the hole to square the game. The last hole was halved. Mortland taking five and McKenzie six. the former having to concede a stroke, and a memorable encounter ended al! square and will have to be replayed. Mortland's figures for the second round were as follow: 44442344 5—34.. He had to concede strokes at al! holes except the fifth and sixth of each round. McKenzie played well and showed that he is a hard man to heat on handicap. The result of the replay will be awaited with interest.
