The winners were Mesdames Gray and Fromont. the consolation going to Mrs. McChesney. Mrs. Dempster won the sponge competition and Mrs. Domney held the winning ticket for the doll competition. Visit to Harewood A party of 30 members of the New Zealand Women's Institutes who are visiting England, was entertained this week by the Harewood Institute, states a London correspondent, writing on June 29. They accepted the inJvitation of the Princess Royal, who 1 is president of the local institute, to visit Harewood House, and attended a “Yorkshire supper,” where they sampled a home-fed ham, the gift of , the Princess Royal. The New Zealanders, in the course of a tour through England, have also visited Alnwick Castle, when they were the guests of the Northumberland Institute. Farewell and Presentation Friends and neighbours gathered at the home of Mr. J. Paterson, Matarawa, on a recent evening to tender a farewell to Mr. and Mrs. J. Johnson who, after many years of farming in the district, have now taken up residence in town. Mrs. Clarke received the guests wearing a navy and red ensemble with matching spray. Mrs. Johnson was wearing a black silk velvet frock and coatee finished with sequin trimmings, while Miss Clarke, who assisted her mother, wore green georgette. The first part of the evening was spent in a euchre -tournament, Ihe first prizes going to Mr. and Mrs. B. Thompson and the consolation prizes lo Miss Barr and Mr. Bamber. Supper was served, after which Mi’s. Clarke presented Mrs. Johnson with a bouquet, while Mr. Paterson, with a few humorous remarks, handed to Mr. Johnson a very cleverly constructed miniature farmyard. The merriment it caused having subsided, Mr. Paterson then, in more serious tones, spoke of the high esteem in which Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were held in the district and asked them, on behalf of their many friends, to accept a handsome oak lea waggon. A toast, with musical honours, was then accorded the guests of Ihc evening, and Mr. Johnson feelingly responded. Dancing to music supplied by Mr. Bert J’hompson and Master Eric Burr, interspersed by community singing, and vocal items by Mrs. Greig, Mr. White. Mr. Lyons, and a duet by Mr. Johnson and Mr. Paterson, followed by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne," brought a most enjoyable evening to a clo-c. _______
