WELL SET FOR 1000 RUNS SIR JULIEN CAHN’S TEAM < I The former Auckland cricketer H. | G. Vivian continues to have outstand- | ing success with the bat for Sir Julien Cahn's team in England. In consequence of two brilliant performances last month he was within a couple of hundred of his 1000 when the last air mail arrived. Starting the season with 73, Vivian’s subsequent innings were 13 and 67 not out, 53 not. out. 66, 70, and seven wickets as well. In this match V. Jackson, the Australian, made .150. Then Vivian made his first, hundred, he and S. Dempster, who scored 193, giving lhe fieldsmen no rest. The brightest display of the lot followed when Vivian made 157 in 90 minutes, the score including five sixes and 21 boundaries. Runs did n I come so freely in the next three strikes—six not out, 25 and 12 being lhe tallies, but in compensation there was success with the ball—three wickets for 19, and the wickets made a hat trick. Twelve innings with three not outs have yielded 788 -an average of 87.5. In the match in which the New Zealanders scored so we4l, left-hander Jack Walsh bowled magnificently, taking nine wickets for 33.
