; SUGGESTED CHANGE IN NAME 1 : TO BE VESTED IN CITY DESIRE OF TRI STEES 1 i Advice that at a meeting of th* i Trust Board it had been decided to ) approach the Wanganui Harbour s Board and the Wanganui City Coun- - cil regarding the suggested change in J the title of the James McGregor i Memorial Park was received at yesi terday's meeting of the Wanganui i Harbour Board. In the letter, the trustees stated that the land leased by them from the board should be vested in the city for all lime for scenic and beautification purposes and for a children’s playground. They asked the board and the council to take theh necessary steps 1o effect lhe change in title if they favoured the proposal. The chairman of the board, Mr. X G. Armstrong, said that the land i mentioned was portion of 33 acres - running from Hatrick’s foundry to - the Dublin Street Bridge and was ) acquired from Messrs. J. H. Nixon. (. i Smithland J. W. Peake in 1896 for - £668 ss. He had been unable to ascertain why the board bought the ) land but it must have been for sorr.o ) harbour development scheme. “It s looks to me that when the board buys ) land it must get the permission of the Minister and must also receive his , permission to sell it,” said the chair- ? man. s The matter was left for further enquiries.
