GOLD DREDGE DESTROYED
FIRE BURNS TO WATER LEVEL ( Per Pres# Association.) INVERCARGILL, July 16. A gold dredge, owned by Mr. J. A. 5. Aiken, of Gorge, and situated in he Chatton district, was completely iestroyed by tire early this morning, rhe dredge was not insured and Aiken is a heavy loser, the damage tteing estimated at about £3OO It b understood that a fireman removed the lire on Saturday night ir for draining out the □oiler and it is thought that a spark from this fire caused the outbreak rhe dredge was burned to the level □f the water before it sank. The dredge is not lying in very deep watei but Aiken considers that it would cost £2OOO tn have it reconstructed.
