TO SETTLE CLAIMS

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, ■ Sii* John Simon, made a statement in ''lhe House of Commons at question '.time to-day regarding plans for the _ settlement of claims against the Czech assets blocked in London by the legislation passed in the spring. He said ;that the intention was to draw up a I scheme for using the assets as a setoff against the British claims. I The scheme, which would be subJmitted to the House when it reiassembled after the recess, would pro!vide for repayment to the Treasury of £6,000,000 advanced to the former I i Czechoslovakian Government and for the use for the benefit of Czech refugees of the unexpended balance of the . free gift, amounting to £4,000,000. 'j It would also provide for dealing with the claims of British holders.
