Dr. P. C. Davie, New Plymouth, who went to England some time ago for post-graduate study, has been awarded the degree of M.D. of Edinburgh University. Mr. G. G. Chisholm, Napier, whose appointment as a stipendiary magistrate was announced last week, left Napier for Auckland during the week-end. Mr. P. Crawshaw, of London, travelling secretary of the Overseas League, who has been louring Australia, will arrive at Auckland from Sydney to-morrow to visit. New Zealand branches of the league. Colonel J. I. Christall, formerly of Christchurch, and al present commanding the cavalry and mechanised frontier forces in Transjordania, was awarded the C.B.E. (Military) in the recent Birthday Honours. The death occurred on Friday of Mr. Richard Charles Stainforth Brabant, of Remuera, manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Newmarket, a position he had held for about 14 years. Mr. Brabant, who was 56, was educated at the Wanganui Collegiate School and Auckland Grammar School. He is survived by his wife and three sons.

The death has occurred of Mr. Colin Mason, aged 6u, at hi> home, Waitaiwhetu Valley. Foi several years he served on the Ohinemuri County Council and was chairman from 1929 to 1932. The death occurred .u Onewheru on Wednesday of Mr. John Aston, aged 80, who was farming in the North Island .for about 50 years. He was born in Worcestershire, and came to New Zealand as a young married man in .1881. He is survived by his wife and daughter. The death has occurred of Mrs. Eliza. Janes Stopher, aged 76, widow of Mr. Joseph Stopher. Born al Belfast, Ireland, Mrs. Stopher, after a few years’ residence in Australia, arrived with her husband and family in 1906. They resided in Palmerston North and Woodville before going to Northern Wairoa 17 years ago to take up farming at Aoroa. Mrs. Stopher is survived by two sons and one daughter. Captain F. E. Naylor, who recently retired from the position ot harbourmaster at Wanganui, attended the board meeting yesterday to say tarewell and to thank the members of the board for their kindness to him during his term in its employ. The chairman (Mr. N. G. Armstrong) and Messrs. W. J. Rogers, W. Morrison and J. Robertson all expressed their appreciation of Captain Naylor's work and wished him improved in health in his retirement. Colonel E. Puttick, D. 5.0., officer commanding the Central Military District. is a visitor to Wanganui. Yesterday, at 5 p.m., he met the president and executive members of the Wanganui Returned Soldiers' Association and had an informal chat about recruiting, and last night he addressed a public meeting in the City Council Chambers on the same subject. ?oday he will inspect, the Collegiate Sciiool Cadets and to-night will address the Wanganui Garrison Officers’ Club. He will leave for New Plymouth to-morrow.
