MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

(Own Correspondent). MARTON, April 27. The Marton Borough Council met on Thursday evening, the Mayor (Mr. F. Purnell) presiding over Crs. G. B. Gregory, T. Barton. A. Mclndoe, A. J. B. Sicely, K. A. Williams, and W. J. Mogridge and Mr. C. C. McDonald ' (town clerk). I Correspondence was dealt with as I follows: I Circular letter from the Commis|sioner of Transport advising that j statistics indicate that the number of accidents to persons riding bicycles is •still too high, stating that in the interests of cyclists themselves each machine should be fully equipped and ridden according to the traffic regulations, and asking council’s co-opera-tion in enforcing the regulations.— The circular is to be given to the Press and traffic inspector for publicity. Circular letter from the CommisI sioner of Transport relative to road safety and motor cyclists, forwarding details of the proposals adopted by the Road Safety Council, and asking council’s co-operation.—Received. Levin Borough Council advising that no supplies of local tar are available, but supplies can be obtained from the Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board at 6d per gallon.—Received. Marton Jockey Club wrote expressing appreciation of the assistance rendered to the club in connection with the tar sealing of the racecourse. —Received. Wanganui City Council wrote advising that the conference of local authorities in heavy traffic district No. 9 has been postponed to Monday, May 8, 1939.—The Mayor would attend th§ conference. i An application was received from R. A. Klatt, on behalf of Mrs. Boneham, ; for a water connection to her property ■ adjoining the upper reservoir reserve. | —Held over. H. R. Cohen advising that a sepSc tank has been installed on his property 'at Alexandra Street, and asking the jcouncil Jo discontinue the annual sanitation fee.—Agreed to. The superintendent of the fire brigade's report on fire and extinguishers, was adopted.
