HEAD TEACHER FAREWELLED

MR. W. P. WILLIAMS, OF TAWHERO. APPOINTED TO CASTLECLIFF. A farewell social Io Mr. W. P. Williams, headmaster of the Taxvhero School, on his appointment to the Castlecliff School was tendered hy the school committee o.n Wednesday night. In making the presentation of « gold wristlet watch on behalf of the parents, committee and staff, the chairman. Mr W. F. Nocholls, referred to the wonderful improvements which had been made at the school during Mr. Williams’ 13 years as headmaster. His work was reflected in the school surroundings, which had been converted from a sandy waste to among the mo.-t beautiful jn New Zealand. Tributes were also paid to Mr. Williams’ service by three past chairmen of the school committee, Messrs. G. Broadhead. G. Clark, and T. Russell, by the secretary, Mr. W. Hoalv, and by Mr. B. Goldsbury, on behalf of the old pupils. Replying, Mr. Williams said that a large share of the credit for the remarkable amount of work carried out in the last 13 years was due to the members of the school committee and staff, xvho had given him their wholehearted co-operation. During the eveni.ng a bouquet was presented to Mrs. Williams, and a bright musical programme, including songs by the Wanganui Male Quartet and dance numbers by Denman Bros., contributed toward the success of Ih<» fu net ion.
