BUTTER PRICES STEADY

CHEESE MARKET SLOW According to the cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board the London butter market last week closed steady, with little change in prices on the previous week. Friday's closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follow: New Zealand: Salted, 114 s (114 s to 115 s; a year ago, 125 s to 1265); unsalted, 118 s (118 s a year ago, 127 s to 128 s). Australian: Salted, 112 s to 113 s (112 s to 113 s); unsalted, 114 s to 115 s (114 s to 115 s). Argentine: Unsalted, 106 s to 108 s. Danish: 105 s f.0.b., 126 s to 127 s spot (105 s 126 s to 1275). Dutch'. Unsalted, 109 s to 119 s (105 s to 107 s). Polish: Salted, 109 s (107 s South Africa; 101 s to 109 s (105 s to 109 s).

The retail price of New Zealand butter in London remains unchanged at Is 2d a lb, while Danish has been reduced Id to Is 3d.

The present wholesale price of 114 s is equal to approximately 13.62 d a lb f.o.b. New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d a lb f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d a cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about G.Jd a lb f.0.b., compared with the gy.-anteed price of 8.42 d.

Deliveries of Canadian cheese last week were 1969 boxes, the quantity in store being 78,546 boxes, against 4,078 boxes a year ago.
