TRIBUTE TO PRESS REPORTER

MR. PETER HARTSHORN MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL'S APPRECIATION Reference to the conscientious work of Mr. Peter Hartshorn, as reporter for the Wanganui Herald newspaper, was made by the Mayor (Mr. W. J. Rogers) at the City Council meeting last night. "I regret to say that this will probably be the last time Mr. Hartshorn will be with us in his capacity as a reporter,” said Mr. Rogers, “after serving on the Herald for 13 years and the “Chronicle” for two years prior to that. As one who comes very closely in contact with public life, I would like to pay tribute to the faithful and able manner in which Mr. Hartshorn has carried out his duties as a reporter of the business of this council and other local bodies in Wan- , ganui. I extend to him the best wishes | of this council for his future success. I and express appreciation of the able way he has carried out his duties j over a long period of years.” Mr. Hartshorn has resigned his position on the Herald and will leave it about the middle of May. He has no immediate plans. He is widely known to the rowing clubs of Wanganui and many in New Zealand, having been cox of the Union Boat Club’s eightoar crew, which competed at the Melbourne centenary celebrations in 1934, representing New Zealand and coming second to that great English crew stroked by F. J. Turner.
