OBITUARY
MRS. SUSAN SHEPPARD The dealh has occurred of Mrs. Susan Sheppard, of Poorman's Valley Road, Stoke, Nelson, where she resided with her husband for the last 20 years. Mrs. Sheppard was known for her many kindly and hospitable actions ever ready to help those in distress, and her death will be widely regretted in the district. The funeral took place at the Stoke cemetery after a short service at her late residence, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Saunders, who also conducted the service at the graveside. The many emblems and tokens of friendship received were evidence of Mrs. Sheppard’s popular disposition. She is survived by her husband, son and daughter, Mr. Len Sheppard, of Wanganui, and Mrs. Joseph Shortt, Maida Vale, London. Mrs. Shortt came from London to be with her mother during the latter part of her illness. Among other relatives are her mother, Mrs. J. Smith, an aged lady of 96, who lives at Opawa, Christchurch, her sisters, Mrs. Vernon, Cherry Farm. Marton: Mrs. Bob McCoy, Stokes Valley, Hutt; Mrs. Fred Palmer, Wanganui; Mrs. Ike Clarke, Kilbirnie; and Mrs. J. Jones, Opawa, Christchurch. Her brothers are Mr. Fred Avant, Wellington, and Mr. Sidney Avant, Christchurch. There are also flv» grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
