SOUTH AFRICA IN TEST NOURSE PASSES CENTURY ENGLAND BATTING DURBAN, March 6. The third day's play in the fifth cricket Test between England and South Africa to-day saw the home team's innings concluded for 530 runs. Rain caused stumps to be drawn early, and England's score was then 35 for the loss of Gibb’s wicket. South Africa’s score is the highest ever made by this country in a Test match against England, the previous highest being 513 for eight wickets at Capetown in 1930-31. England's highest score against South Africa, 559 for nine wickets, was made at Capetown in the second Test of the present series. England had not previously reached 500 in a Test in South Africa. At stumps on Saturday South Africa's score was 423 for six wickets, the not-out batsmen being Nourse (77) and Grieveson 26. Nourse took his score to 103 before he was yorked by a ball from Perks which he attempted to slog. Nourse took 356 minutes to reach his century nad hit only six 4's. South Africa’s innings occupied 780 minutes, being spread over three days. The most successful English bowler was Perks, who was included in the Test team for the first time on the present tour. He took five for 100, Wright and Verity getting two each.
