TO-NIGHT’S SPORTS POSTPONED The Marton Athletic Club has decided to postpone to-morrow night’s sports meeting to have been held on Marton Park because of the big meeting being held in Wanganui in conjunction with the Fire Brigade conference. Several local athletes intend competing at that meeting. (|«ASS FIRE DESTROYS SHRUBBERY A fire alarm at mid-day on Monday saw the fire engine smartly in action, the location being a grass fire near Mr. A. Crooke’s residence, near the Wanganui-New Plymouth railway line. The fire was quickly subdued but not before a number of trees in the shrubbery were destroyed. ARTISTIC PRODUCTIONS Outstanding features in connection with the presentation function to Mr. Ormond Wilson at Marton on Friday evening were two songs composed by Mr. A. E. S. Crozier (Marton) entitled “Napier by the Sea” and “Rongotai,” in anticipation of the Centennial Exhibition at Wellington. Tha vocalist was Miss E. Sherriff and both the vocalist and composer were accorded a hearty reception. The illuminated address and photographic album reflected great credit on the artistic ability of Mr. Erwin R. Klitsher, of Marton, and was very much admired. In referring to both of these as New Zealand production, the Hon. Mr. Walter Nash said there was no need to import this class of artistic ability when such game could be produced in New Zealand. MARTON CIVIC THEATRE “LITTLE TOUGH GUY” Right off the front page of a daily paper came the elements for one of the most important sequences in the Universal picture, “Little Tough Guy,” which begins to-night at the Civic Theatre. The unusual screen play presents the powerful story of a youth’s struggle against the oppressive influence of life in a big city. The famous “Dead End” kids are featured in the cast with Robert Wilcox and Helen Parrish.
