MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE MAORI REFUSED LENIENCY [ Per PißSft AshOL-intinn. 1 GISBORNE. March 6. Rewi Kerehi, alias Dave Grace, found guilty of manslaughter of his wife, at j uparoa, was sentenced by Mr. Justice Northcroft to 10 years’ imprisonment. Counsel sought, leniency because of the prisoner's war wounds and because he had been drinking, but His Honour said that although the prisoner was subject, to fits of violence and passion, possibly caused by drink, he did not. think in that case the prisoner did not know what he was doing. Joe Douglas, found guilty of rape and indecent assault al Wairoa, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
