BRITAIN CHARGED “PEACE BY INTIMIDATION” [By Telegraph—Pres* Association—Copyright] ROME, March 5. “Everything proves that the democracies are heading more rapidly toward war; their armaments are losing their defensive character and assuming an openly offensive one,” writes the Fascist publicist Signor Virginio Gayda in the Voce d’ltalia. “The fact that for the first time in history the British air estimates transcend those of the navy,” he adds, “justifies the belief that Britain is preparing to transport troops to the Continent. We have no need to worry. The astronomical estimates which Britain is able to afford is from the wealth derived from an Empire which denies others. They prove that Mr. Chamberlain’s formula of negotiated peace is changing to peace by intimidation. When the war magazines are filled Britain’s tone will harmonise less with the pipes of peace.” BRITISH EMPIRE ENVIED SIZE AND WEALTH SPEECH BY DR. GOEBBELS. BERLIN, March 5. ' The Minister of Propaganda, Dr. Goebbels, opening the Leipzig Fair, criticised the "almost inconceivable" size and wealth of the British Empire, and said that Germany was inadequately treated in the distribution of the world’s goods and was scarcely able to supply the people with the necessary food and minor luxuries. However, the economic programme was sound common sense. “Germany must and will live,” he declared.
