BEHIND LOYALIST LINES UPRISING IN CARTAGENA NATIONALISTS MAKE APPEAL BY RADIO (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received March 6, 7.5 p.m. GILBRATAR, March 5. A revolt against the republicans is reported to have broken out in Cartagena. Nationalists occupied the naval radio station and broadcast an appeal for help, asking the nationalist authorities to dispatch warships to Cartagena. The revolt was speedily quelled, however, republicans reoccupying the radio station. Official broadcasts from Madrid announced the suppression of the Cartagena revolt with the aid of the ; republican fleet and troops despatch- 1 ed to the scene. The broadcasts adu that a judicial inquiry was opened to rigorously punish those attempting to stab loyal Spain in the back. Reports circulated while the Na- 1 tionalists had possession of the wireless station stated that the bulk of J the population, the garrison, anu 1 dockyard workers rose against the republic and captured the republican fleet of three cruisers and ten destroyers which General Franco's ah ’ raids previously severely damaged, but another version was that the fleet sought safety at sea. Later camo the announcement that the reoublicans had recaptured the station after street lighting, taking many prisoners and shooting others. The Gibraltar correspondent ot The 1 Times says the nationalist fleet is reported to be en route to Cartagena. A message from Oran states that the- French authorities arrested 30 officers and men believed to be nationalist participants in the revolt, immediately they climbed out of four military planes from Cartagena. A fourth plane containing seven men | took to the air again but made a . forced landing.
