KING’S CUP YOUTH IN THE LEAD SON OF FORMER WINNER SHORT RANGES COMPLETED [ Per Press \v.ociation.J TRENTHAM, March 6. Firing over the short ranges in the series of matches for the championship belt was' completed at the National rifle meeting at Trentham today. When shooting ceased for the day B. Masefield, of the Nelson-Marl-borough Regiment of Mounted Rifles, was leading for the King’s Prize with an aggregate score of 288 out of a possible 300. He is 18 years of age and the son of Capt. W. N. Masefield, who has won the King’s Prize three times. This is the second national meeting Masefield, jun., has attended. His first was as a college student two years ago. One point behind Masefield is F. Bowes, of the Auckland City Rifle Club and the winner of the belt in 1935. Five marksmen, A. R. Symons (Ashhurst), G. G. Kelly (Karori), H. Harries (Christchurch), I. J. Spry (Auckland) and D. G. Wyllie (West Taieri), have the next best scores, each with 286. The marksmen will move back to the long ranges to-mor-row for the last three shoots.
