JIGGER HITS ENGINE

RAILWAY WORKER KILLED ACCIDENT NEAR TAURANGA *[ Per Press Association.] TAURANGA, March 3. An accident shortly after 5 p.m. on the railway line between Te Puna and Otumoetai resulted in the death of one man and injuries to another. Three employees of the Railway Department, Ernest Samuel Jackson, Alfred Williams, and Henry Wenzlick, after finishing work were returning to Tauranga on a jigger. When rounding a. bend they collided with a shunting engine proceeding to Te Puna. The occupants of the jigger were thrown off. Jackson had both legs and his right arm broken and head injuries, and died in hospital. He is aged 59 and is survived by a wife and five children. Wenzlick sprained his ankle and Williams escaped with abrasions.
