YOUNG FARMERS

CAMP AT WANGANUI PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS Preliminary arrangements for a proposed Young Farmers’ Club agricultural camp week, to be held in Wanganui in June, were discussed by the sub-committee of the Wanganui District Executive of the New Zealand Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs. Suggestions for a programme of events were drawn up. The programme recommended included: Tours of factories and industrial centres in and around the city of Wanganui; visits to the progressive farming areas within easy reach of the city, coupled with inspections of farms and stock demonstrations; talks of farming interest by agricultural experts, and the screening of sound films with themes of entertaining and instructional subject matter. The organisation of a dance and other similar social activities is proposed, while it is expected that theatre parties, a scenic trip, and some sporting fixture will be included. Realising that the success of the rally is largely dependent upon the active support and assistance of other town arid country organisations, where such arrangements as accommodation and transport facilities and social activities are concerned, those interested in the welfare of the Young Farmers’ Club movement throughout the Wanganui district would greatly appreciate any offers of co-operation. Already, active co-operation from the members of the Wanganui A. and P. Association and the Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union has been in evidence. The Young Farmers’ Club movement, within the comparatively short period of its existence has developed into a national movement with more than 170 affiliated clubs, a total membership of nearly 5000.
