A FULL INVESTIGATION I STATEMENT BY MR. SAVAGE I ELECTORAL LAW CHANGES? [ Per Press Association. J WELLINGTON. Feb. 2. I The intention of the Government to [ascertain the effect of the operation of the country quota in Parliamentiary elections was referred to by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Sav!age, when asked in an interview if [any action regarding the quota was (contemplated. Mr. Savage said he (wanted to find out how it affected the [country as a whole. "I said during the election campaign Ithat no alteration would be made in [the electoral law till a full investigation had been made,” said Mr. Savage. [“That investigation will be made some (time, but no arrangements have been (made for it so far. It is a question [of finding out how the country quota (operates. All we want to do is to ascertain how it. affects voters generally. I don’t suppose there is a man in Parliament who can say how it .operates, and what the effect, would be if it were removed. I want to find out actually what the position is.”
