Hongkong reports state that the Japanese, in attempting a landing at Tongka, near Macao, by using 30 shallow pinnaces, withdrew after the Chinese had sunk two of them. An aerial bombardment continues. The Japanese raided Shiuchow and machine-gunned a bus load of refugees near Macao. Two were killed and 12 wounded. The Chinese report the confiscation of idols from Cantonese temple, including 500 geni which are goldplated wood valued at 5,000,000 Chinese dollars. A Tokio message says that Mr. Arita, in the Diet, stated that Japan had no intention of indemnifying third Powers for property damage during Japanese military operations in China.
