Japanese Ship to Load. The Yamashita Kisen Kaisha motorship Kozan Maru is due at Castlecliff on February 8 or 9 to discharge a cargo of about 500 tons of guano and to load wool for Japan. The Kozan Maru arrived at Auckland on Saturday, and sails for Wellington, thence Wanganui. She visited Castlecliff on her maiden voyage last April.

Band Concert Blackout. A diversion was created at the concert presented by the band of the Queen Alexandra’s Own Mounted Rifles at Castlecliff last night, when every light in the rotunda fused. However, it took a lot to deter the ingenious bandsmen, and the concert was continued under the glare of car-lights.

Rowing; Regattas Wanganui rowing crews will leave by motor-lorries to-night lor the Wellington regatta on Port Nicholson tomorrow afternoon. The crews which are to compete at the New Zealand championships on the following Saturday will travel to Picton off Monday to undergo a week’s training. Since January, fourteen Wanganui crews have had a regatta each week and will have had a strenuous season by the time the championship regatta is held. Australian Tourists. A party of Australian tourists will arrive in Wanganui on Sunday afternoon during a brief tour of the North Island. The tourists will be from the Orient liner Oronsay, which is due at Auckland, from Brisbane, tills morning with 610 cruise passengers. The Oronsay will leave Auckland at midnight for Wellington, and will sail for Australia on Monday. The overland passengers will visit Rotorua, Waitomo Caves, Wairakel and National Park before coming to Wanganui, ■ where they will spend the night, leaving for Wellington early Monday morning.

Crack Auckland Cyclists. Three of Auckland's leading riders, C. Gooder, T. Gamble, and H. Baldwin, have been invited by the Wanganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club to compete in the electric light sports meeting at Cook’s Gardens, on Saturday, February 11. Holder of the New Zealand mile record, C. Gooder, has been thrice runner-up in the national championship, and was formerly the Auckland kilometre champion. An Auckland scratch rider, T. Gamble has broken the mile record, reducing the time to 2min. 3-ssec. H. Baldwin is the New Zealand junior half-mile champion and is close to a scratch rider in Auckland races. Children's Health Camp Although no official statement has been made, it is understood that the Wanganui Children's Health Camp at Gonville will be opened this month for the reception of about 15 to 20 children. When the camp is fully organised, staffed and furnished, it will accommodate 50 children. The camp will be maintained out of the proceeds of health stamp sales and a proportionate share in the annual health camp art union. The camp will be in charge of a matron appointed by the Health Department, in this case, Nurse Gillespie. All goods required for the equipment of the camp will be purchased from Wanganui firms.

Garden Circle Exhibit One of the most popular features of the National Flower Show at New Plymouth this week was the exhibit staged by the Wanganui Children’s Garden Circle. Keen interest was taken in the work of the children and Mrs. Knox Gilmer, president of the Wellington Horticultural Society, who opened the show, paid tribute to the children's display. The display consisted of decorative work and miniature gardens constructed of all kinds of odds and ends. The party was accompanied by Mr. J. A. Shanks, secretary of the circle, and Mr. P. J. Cox, organiser. As a result of the exhibit, enthusiasm in the Garden Circle movement has been aroused in the Taranaki district and it is understood that an organisation will be started there at an early date.

Military Camps. The Second Composite Infantry Battalion, of which the WellingtonWest Coast Regiment is a unit, will be encamped at Waiouru from February 18 to 25, with a preparatory course from February 11 to 18. Lieutenant-Colonel F. S. Varnham, M. will be the officer in command and Captain J. W. Barry, N. will be adjutant. The battalion will be inspected at Waiouru on February 23 by Major-General J. E. Duigan, Officer Commanding the New Zealand Defence Forces. B Squadron Fourth Motorised Regiment will be encamped on the Marton Racecourse from May 20 to May 30. and between the same dates the Second Composite Rifle Regiment, which includes the Queen Alexandra's Mounted Rifles, will hold a camp on
