ESTATE OF £1,400,000
“TOBACCO FORTUNE” Personal estate in Great Britain, valued at £1,439,177, has been left by Mr. John Smith, of Eastwoodhill, Giffnock, Renfrewshire, manager of the F. and J. Smith branch of the Imperial Tobacco Company of Great Britain and Ireland in Glasgow, and formerly a partner in F. and J. Smith, Ltd., tobacco manufacturers, of Glasgow. Mr. Smith, who died recently, aged 70, was a generous supporter of charities during his life, and in his will, ' published the .other day, he made bequests totalling over £40,000 to hos- ‘ pitals, institutions, religious and other charities. Among these bequests was one of ‘ £lO,OOO to the Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow, to endow a ward.
