RAINFALL FIGURES
JANUARY AND APRIL THE WETTEST MONTHS DECEMBER RANKS NEXT According to records kept by Mr. J. Allison, “Paori,” No. 1 Line, Wanganui, January and April were the two wettest months of 1938, with December third. A total of 7.28 inches of rain fell in January and also in April. The total fall in December was 6.72 inches. The total fall of the year, as recorded at “Paori” was 46.07 inches. Mr. Fred Pratt, of Waikupa, Okoia, show* that 7.33 inches of rain fell on 2G days during December last in that locality, against 2.76 inches on eight days in December, 1937.
Records for 75 Years. Mr. Allison has records of rainfall kept at “Paori” since 1876, and has in his possession records compiled before that by his brother, the late Mr. T. Allison, at Westmere, and before that again by the late Mr. H. I. Jones, on the No. 3 Line.' Those records disclose that the wettest December in 75 years was in 1924, when 8.07 inches fell. In 1913 the total fan was 7.95 inches and last Decembe; ranked third in the series of falls in that month during the 75 years' period under review; it was 6.73. The driest December was in IS7O, the fall being point 35 of an inch, while in 1916 the fall was point 36 ol an inch. Within more recent years the driest December was in 1934, the fall then being point 59 of an inch and in 1930 point 80 of an inch.
