WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, Jan. 4, 3 p.m. General Situation. —An anti-cyclone is still centred to the west ot the North Island but pressure is falling in the far south with the approach of a depression from the South Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Light to moderate south-westerly in the north, otherwise freshening northerlies to westerlies, with gales later in some exposed positions south of Cook Strait. A south-westerly change in the south after about 12 to 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters): Slight to moderate, but rising on the west coast south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea: Winds, light to moderate and variable in the northern portion, strong northwesterlies in the southern portion with rather rough seas, and a change to south-westerlies advancing later from the west. Weather: Fair to fine generally at first but becoming unsettled in we.ern and southern districts of the South Island with rain developing. Temperatures mild to warm, becoming cooler again later, however, in the south.
