TRENTHAM NOMINATIONS CLOSING TO-MORROW Nominations for the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting, to be held on Thursday, Saturday and Monday, January 19, 21, and 23, are due to close at 5 o’clock to-morrow afternoon, at which time a forfeit is due for the Wellington Stakes. Chief interest on the programme will be centred on the Wellington Cup, which carries a stake of £1350, including a gold cup valued at £l5O. The winner's share of the stake is £B4O in addition to the trophy. The Wellington Cup is decided over a mile and a-half, and on the second day ot the meeting there is the Wellington Racing Club Handicap (£750), followed by the Summer Handicap (£750) on the concluding day. The open sprint each day is worth £5OO, and there are three mile races worth £350 each. The first event each day is a highweight, with a stake of £3OO, and there ate three handicap events for two-yeai-olds. The hacks are well catered for, the Douro Cup, on the second day, carrying a stake of £4OO and being decided over a mile. ASHHURST MEETING NOMINATIONS TO-NIGHT Nominations for all events at the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club’s holiday meeting, to be held on Anniversary Day, January 23, close at 9 o'clock to-night, with the secretary, Mr J. A. McDonell (Ashhurst). Increasing the amount by £2OO on last year, the club is offering the liberal total of £l5OO in stakes. Following its usual progressive policy, the club, in addition, is paying rail freight, or the equivalent in float charges, one way for horses from Taranaki, Wanganui, Wellington, Wairarapa, and Hawke’s Bay competing at the meeting. First event on the programme is the Hack Hurdles, 11 miles, of £l5O. The open sprint, the Pohangina Handicap, is worth £2OO, and the Komako Hack Handicap, of six furlongs, £l5O. There is a stake of £320 for the Ashhurst Cup, of li miles, the winner's share being £230. The Novice Stakes, of £l3O, is for two-year-olds and upwards that have not won a flat race. The Manawatu Gorge Cup, of 81 furlongs, carries a stake of £225, and the five-furlong Siberia Hack Handicap £l5O. The Raumai Handicap, an open event of seven furlongs, is worth £175.
