RICH AMERICAN’S WIFE GREAT DISPLAY OF JEWELS LONDON, Dec. 21. The centre of several lavish and much-advertised parties, Mrs. Albertini, the wife of an American millionaire, gave a cocktail party at the week-end in London that cost £5OO. She wore her Marie Antionette jewels, worth £60,000, reaching from tlie wrist to the elbow. ■ Many of the women guests glittered with diamonds and wore sable and mink coats. Mrs. Albertini said: "Some people call me extravagant, but I like
to see people happy. My parties bring trade to the suppliers.” Extraordinary precautions were taken to keep out gate-crashers. Every guest was told to produce his invitation card, which was carefully scrutinised by officials in uniform. Several well-dressed people who were not invited were turned back by Champagne flowed without limit in a room scented by hothouse roses and carnations.
