OBITUARY
MR. T. E. TONEYCLIFFE A PROMINENT BAPTIST. [ Per Press Association.] GISBORNE, Jan. 3. The death has occurred of Mr. Thomas E. Toneycliffe, a well-known figure in the drapery trade and Baptist Church circles throughout the Dominion, aged 84. Born in Ireland, Mr. Toneycliffe came to New Zealand in 1875 and worked in various drapery establishments before entering in partnership in Christchurch with Mr. A. Fl Carey. Coming to Gisborne in 1909 with the intention of retiring, he took over the business of William Pettie, Limited, which he controlled until his death. One of the leading members of the Baptist Church and a regular participant at all its conferences, he was widely known in every part of the Dominion. He is survived by his widow, whom he married in Christchurch 55 years ago, but leaves no family. MR. WILLIAM H. FERRIS I Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Jan. 3. The death occurred suddenly to-day of Mr. William Henry Ferris, formerly chief hemp grader of the Department of Agriculture, aged 71. Mr. Ferris has been associated with the flax industry since 1883 and was weii known throughout the Dominion. He joined the department in 1903, retiring seven years ago. He is survived by a widow and adult family.
