AUCKLAND MEETING HUGE “TOTE” INCREASE VAN DERBY WINS MATCH RACE. [ Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Dec. 31. Perfect weather favoured the final day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting, and the attendance was 16,000. The track was fast. The totalisator handled £64,502 10s, compared with £35,148 10s last year, an increase of £29,354. The figures for the meeting were £189,844 10s, compared with £125,660 last year, an increase of £64,184 10s. In the challenge match race Van Derby (F. J. Smith got a break of two lengths over Lawn Derby (W. J. O’Shea) in a flying start, and led throughout.
