ARRESTS IN NORTH IRELAND CABINET MINISTERS’ LIVES THREATENED By Telegraph—Press Association—G>pyrights Received Dec. 23, 6.5 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 22. In copsequence of warnings of attacks on leading politicians and Government property in Northern Ireland, the police rounded up 34 leaders of the Irish Republican Army. The Belfast correspondent of the Daily Mail declares that the arrests were the result of a plot ‘ against the life of Lord Craig- I avon and other members of the I Cabinet. Zero hour was to have I been January 1. ! The Ministry for Home Affairs is- 1 sued a statement saying that the Irish Republican Army was prepared for attacks on prominent person?; also on Government and other property during Christmas and the new year. It therefore had decided that there was no alternative but to arrest and intern well-known leaders, 34 of whom so far have been arrested. Police guards on public buildings have been doubled ana members of Cabinet provided with a bodyguard. Those arrested are held in Belfast gaol and after questioning will be interned under the Civil Authorities’ Special Powers Act.
