600 DOMINION SCOUTS PARTICIPATING. SAILING BY AWATEA DECEMBER 20. ( Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Dec. 4. Preparations for the departure of the New Zealand contingent of 600 Boy Scouts to attend the Australasian jamboree at Sydney at the end of this month are going rapidly ahead. Loaners have been appointed and the boys will leave in two parties, one from Auckland and the other from Wellington. Each party will comprise 300 boys. It will be the biggest youth contingent ever sent from New Zealand. The centennial jamboree organiser commissioner, Mr. J. E. F. Vogel, will leave Wellington by the Awatea on December 13 to study the administrative organisation of the Sydney jamboree. In this way he will be able to apply the latest developments to the 1939-40 jamboree to be held at Heretaunga, Hutt Valley. The northern party of boys will leave Auckland by the Awatea on December 20 and will return on January 16. Its leader will be Mr. W. D. Johns, of Auckland, assisted by Mr. A. F. A. Woollams, of Wanganui. Mr. W. Parker, of Dannevirke, will be providore and Di. MacNamara, of Auckland, will be medical officer. Mr. A. T. Dow, of Auckland, will be the treasurer, with Mr. M. J. Heyder, of Christchurch and Mr. H. Callow, of Wellington, as pocket money cashiers. The southern party will leave Wellington on December 20 by the Awatea and will return on January 23. It will be led by Mr. J. R. Middleton, of Wellington, and Mr. F. Mclvor, of Christchurch. Mr. E. 1.. Paget, of Auckland, will be providore; Mr. F. W. Horner, of Hawera, leave Seouter; Mr. N. D. Stubbs, of Palmerston North, treasurer and Mr. R. V. F. Foster and Mr. R. E. Glensor, of Wellington, pocket money cashiers. Representatives of Scout headquarters attending the jamboree will be the Dominion Chief Commissioner, Mr. H. Christie, of Wanganui; Mr. D. A. Dale, secretary; Mr. T. R. H. Cooksey, Napier contingent leader; Mr. A. J. Veart, Auckland, Sea Scouts Commissioner and Mr. E. Manthorp, Timaru, and Mr. A. W. Gordon, Rotorua, display Scoyters. It is expected that the Australian Scout Association will reciprocate by sending at least as large a contingent to the New ZeaDnd jamboree next year.
