SUCCESS OF QUEEN CARNIVAL

RECORD SUM OF £1833 GREYMOUTH, Dec. 4. Commenced thirteen weeks ago : with the objective of raising £2OOO lor i the building of a Marist Brothers' house a queen carnival concluded last ! night, with the remarkable return of ( £5433 in addition to which donations totalled £2400. The successful queen was Miss Quita Hassall with £2600 followed by Miss Colleen Moore with £2060. The new house, now in course of erection, will cost £5OOO completely furnished and the balance will be used for Catholic education purposes in Greymouth. The carnival, for which donations had been received from all parts of New Zealand, realised the largest total ever recorded on the West Coast and has been exceeded only once in the history of the Catholic Church in New Zealand.
