ROYAL CHIEF VERY FIT MELBOURNE, Oct. 25. Conditions were ideal for galloping at Caulfield. On the steeplechase course, next to the rails, Tempest easily beat Fort Regal over a mile and a-quarter in 2min. lOisec., Lynch Law defeating Destiny Bay over five furlongs in 1 min. 3sec. Romford was going comfortably alongside Wellington Maid in covering half a mile in 49sec. Othello sprinted six furlongs in lmin. 15isec. and Marauder and Son of Aurous finished together over a mile and aquarter in 2min. 13sec. Beechwood beat Sylphide over six furlongs in 1 min. 167 sec., and Beau Mari and Esl>eranto were on terms at the end of half a mile in 50sec. On the sand, Royal Chief, after pace work, sprinted half a mile in 52isec. He is very fit. The Trump ran seven furlongs in lmin. 32sec. Bourbon finished strongly to cover the last mile and a-quarter of his work in 2min. 15sec. At Flemington, on the tan, Gold Rod was going well over six furlongs in lmin. 16isec. On the course proper, 30ft. out. Sir Regent and Bachelor King, both without shoes, covered a mile and a-quarter in 2min. 12sec. St. Constant and Good Boy were together over nine furlongs in lmin. 591 sec. Gay Knight beat region over the same ground in lmin. 59sec. El Senorita beat Haughty Stare over a mile in lmin. 46lsec. Diamond Wedding and Bonheur de Pere ran the best seven furlongs, taking lmin. 314 sec. Young Crusader moved freely over one and a-quarter miles in 2min. 13 sec. Mohican sprinted half a mile in 51isec. Down the straight, Mars Flight beat Magnetic Knight and Captain Kettle over five furlongs in lmin. 3isec., and Beaucaire beat Kestrel and Vigilance in lmin. 3’sec.
