FOUR OCCUPANTS RESCUED ACCIDENT IN RANGITOTO CHANNEL f Per Pres- Association.! AUCKLAND. Oct. 25. I Struck by a rain squall, a 14ft. sail ing boat, the Romp, capsized in Ran- i gitoto Channel. The four occupants were rescued after they had been in the water for ten minutes. With Reginald Corney, aged IS and Edward Corney, aged 15, of 73 Islington Street, Ponsonby, Harry MacDonald, aged 17, of O’Neill Street, Ponsonby. and a fourth youth or. board, the boat left Shelly Beach at about 9 o’clock and off Shoal Bay met another small boat, the Shirley, which w-as manned by friends. The occupants of the two boats decided to have a race to Islington Bay, Rangitoto, and this was in progress when the Romp capsized. The Shirley was only 100 yards away-, but could not give assistance because of the wind. The occupants of an outboard motor-boat, which was about 300 yards off, hurriedly came to the boys’ assistance and took them on board. . An attempt was made to Wow the Romp ashore, but had to be abandoned. The boys were landed at Cheltenham Beach, and apart from suffering from the cold, were none the worse for their adventure. After another outboard motorboat had failed to recover the Romp, the vessel drifted ashore at Okahu Eay on the incoming tide.
