FROZEN MEAT TRADE

Increased Exports and Killings TWELVE MONTHS’ FIGURES With the exception of chilled beef and mutton, exports of meat from the Dominion during the twelve months of the 1937-38 season ended September 30 show slight decreases. Lamb, at 9,139,965 carcases, shows a decrease of 47,404 carcases; pork, at 664,858 carcases, has decreased by 2246 carcases, and frozen beef al 168,362 quarters, is less by 19,766 quarters. Exports of chilled beef during the twelve months totalled 237,186 quarters, an increase of 36,081 quarters; mutton at 2,019,197 carcases increased by 218,627 carcases, and boneless beef at 363,715 bags increased by 64,302 bags. In addition lo the above, exports included 237,186 quarters of chilled beef, an increase of 36,801 quarters, and 363,715 bags of boneless beef, an increase of 64,302 bags. Killings of lambs for export during the twelve months totalled 9,166,771, a decrease of 16,492. The North Island total was 4,571,773, a decrease of 255,144, and the South Island tally was 4,595,998, an increase of 238,652. Killings of sheep totalled 2,188,087, an increase of 411,512 carcases. Killings of pork totalled 655,220 carcases, a decrease of 25,276. Killings of beef show considerable increases. MEAT SHIPMENTS TO U.K. The Meat Board is advised by its London office that the shipments from Australia, South America and South Africa to the United Kingdom during the month of September were as follow : Australia: 26,036 carcases mutton; 224,310 carcases lamb; 118,507 quarters beef (frozen); 30,218 quarters beef (chilled). South America: 6824 carcases mutton; 136,835 carcases lamb; 4720 quarters beef (frozen); 389,516 quarters beef (chilled). South Africa: 9212 quarters beef (chilled). The shipments from New Zealand to the United Kingdom for the same period were as f0110w:—395,128 carcases mutton; 388,9.36 carcases lamb; 20,622 quarters beef (frozen); 8687 quarters beef (ehilled).
