REGRADING OF SCHOOLS

Sir,—The changes in our educational system appear to be bringing about many anomalies and some injustices and I think the time has come when we parents should protest to protect our teachers and our schools. Some few years ago our school was in such a deplorable state that, rumour has it, a senior inspector walked out in disgust refusing to examine. A young teacher came in and brought’ the school up to a high standard, introducing modern ideas and progressive methods, in fact, remaking school life for our children. Now, when the school is running happily and efficiently, the Labour Government introduces a system whereby our young teachers must be transferred because of a few paltry grading marks. It appears that some nine hundred of them are affected. We emphatically protest. We want young and progressive men in our schools. Anyway in fairness the teacher should be given the benefits accruing from his work, not be made the butt of any political system.— “INDIGNANT PARENT.” Westmere, October 11, 1938. The Labour Government was not responsible for the method of grading schools.—Editor.
