AUSTRALIAN SUCCESSES CERTAIN DOUBLES WIN Received Oct. 10, 11.5 p.m. BERKELEY (Cal.), Oct. 9. The Pacific South-West lawn tennis championship tournament was continued to-day. In the women’s doubles Misses Wynne and Coyne (Australia) defeated Mrs. Hopman and Miss Stevenson (Australia), 8-6, 6-8, 6-2. In the women’s singles semi-linal Mme. Mathieu defeated Mrs. Hopman, 6-1, 6-1. In the men’s doubles semi-finals Hopman and Schwartz (Australia) defeated Robert Harman and Gene Smith (California), 7-5, 6-4, 6-2. Bromwich and Quist (Australia) defeated Hare (England) and Riggs (U.S.A.), 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.
BUDGE DEFEATED LAST TOURNEY AS AMATEUR? Received Oct. 10, 11.5 p.m. BERKELEY (Cal.), Oct. 9. In his rumoured final tournament as an amateur Budge suffered his second consecutive defeat, Hopmar. winning the quarter-final, 6-2, 5-6, 6-1. Budge was erratic and slow. Hopmaa passed him frequently. Tidball (Los Angeles) defeated Bromwich in the quarter-final, 6-3, 6-4.
