TROTTING

LAWN DERBY FOR N.Z. ATTACK ON MILE RECORD Received Oct. 10, 11.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 10. Sydney’s champion pacer Lawn Derby will leave for New Zealand on October 26 to compete in the Cup meeting at Addington. His trainer, W. O'Shea, contemplates an attack on the Dominion mile record.

NEWS OF HAROLD LOGAN MAY' REAPPEAR THIS MONTH. AUCKLAND TRIP IN PROSPECT The nomination of Harold Logan for the New Zealand Trotting Cup, a race he won twice, and in which when placed third he established his world’s two-mile record of 4.12 2-5, has created a good deal of speculation as to the chances of his making another appearance on the race track. Almost two years, ago, Harold Logan won the Free-For-All, which was announced as his final appearance, and the champion was publicly honoured and farewelled. However, the veteran is stated to be so sound and active again that he may fulfil his Cup engagement, but first he may race at Auckland this month. In a communication received from Mr. E. F. C. Hinds, Palmerston North, “Abaydos” was informed that the present intention is to bring his three pacers, Harold Logan, Effie Parrish and Glorietta, to Auckland for the spring meeting. Mr. Hinds stated that, although Harold Logan would be out of his class, he was anxious to see how he would shape, as he did not want to take the horse to Addington unless he revealed something of his old form. “At this stage,” states Mr. Hinds,

“I am pleased with Harold Logan, who appears to be better in his legs than ever he has been, while his heart is still in the right place. However, it will be necessary to give him a race or two to find out how he is really going, and should anything occur to interfere with his training, Harold Logan will be eased immediately.”
