LEAKING GAS MAIN
THREE PEOPLE IN HOSPITAL [ Per Tress Association.] CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 12. A leaking gas main under a verandah of the house where they were sleeping caused three people to be admitted to the Christchurch PublicHospital to-day, suffering from the effects of mild gas poison. They were Mrs. Johansen and two of her children, Beryl and Ray Johansen, aged IL and 9, living in Hagley Street. An odour was noticed last night but it was not considered serious. However, the family was affected this morning. Two other children quickly recovered and it was not necessary to take them to hospital. A new gas cooker had apparently been installed and by some means the pipe from the main to the house had been broken. An examination showed that the pipe had become badly rusted and broken in some way.
