PERSONAL. Miss L. Stent is spending a holiday in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Hamjnond are on a holiday in Auckland. Mrs. H. Burford is now making a good recovery from her illness but is still in the private hospital at Hunterville. Mr. H. Thompson has returned from an enjoyable holiday in the Auckland district. Mr. R. Don, head teacher at Kohi, has been transferred Io the Ohingaitl Schoo), and takes up his new position in Ohingaiti during the second term holidays. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Prevalence of sickness was rei sponsible for a small attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the local branch. The president, Mrs. J. B. McKnight, was in the chair. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Rush, of Wanganui for an interesting demonstration on a fascinating and useful hobby, “Egg Shell Painting." “Old customs that have died out,” formed the subject matter of the roll call. The winners of the competition for the best plate of savouries were Mesdames Prichard and Trevcna, first and I second respectively. For the second competition “My Best Cup and Saucer," Mrs Sextus was awarded first place, and Mrs. Weston second. Mrs. T. Hammond, the local delegate to the annual conference held recently in Wellington, presented a comprehensive report of the proceedings of the conference. The president, expressed thanks to the members of the Young Farmers’ Club who had assisted the institute members with their tree planting on Arbor Day. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Darragh and Florence and Miss M. Hammond.
