BOXING CLASSES IN MARTON Boxing has taken o;y a new leas? ct life in Marton with the formation ct boxing classes, and on Saturdays the classes for school pupils are well attended, several of the young aspirants showing great promise in the art or self defence. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ RUGBY The final trial game for the selection of Rangitikei Primary Schools’ representatives was held at Taihape on Saturday last. The ground was in good order and a fast match resulted tn a win for Marton-Taihape over Raetihi-Ohakune, by six points to three. The following team was chosen to represent Rangitikei at the annual tournament to be held at Hutt this year;—Pearson, Parker, (Raetihi); Morris, Deadman, Sherrin, (Oha;kune); Curran, (Ohakune Convent); Rose, (Rangataua); Glennie, (Taihape D. SCHOOL BASKETBALL The third annual primary schools’ basketball tournament was played on the grounds of Taihape School, on Saturday. Fourteen teams, numbering 146 players, competed, and 43 games were played under ideal conditions. Taihape A won the tourney for the first time and Rangataua were run-ners-up. From this end of the district Hunterville and Marton Junction competed in the town section, the former winning three games out oi six, while the latter did not win a game. In the country section, Hunterville B and Halcombe entered teams. Hunterville out of six games won four and drew one, and Halcombe won 3 and drew one. In the final Taihape defeated Rangataua by 5 goals to 2.
