Mr W. J. Gibson Hughes, of Wanganui, is visiting Auckland. Mr. G. E. Bennett has been elected president of the Wanganui Employers' Association in succession to Mr. W. J. Gibson-Hughes, who is leaving Wanganui. Mr. A. E. Rankin has been elected vice-president. Colonel F. W. W. Dawson, of the New Plymouth area of the Wanganui District of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, Mrs. G. M. Spurdie, of the Wanganui Central Nursing Division, and Mr. Geo. Lucock, late of East Town Railway Division, have been approved by the Grand Prior, the Duke of Connaught, as worthy recipients of the Service Medal of the Order of St. John, and to Mrs. M. S. Brine is granted the five years’ service bar to the medal already held.

Mr. K. C. Wells, stationmaster at Aramoho, who is retiring on superannuation, was farev. Vied at a social gathering in the Aramoho Boating Club’s hall last night. He has been stationed at Aramoho for the past 14 years, and during that period has proved an efficient and courteous officer, who was popular with staff and public alike. He was presented with a fireside chair and a chiming clock, the gifts being from colleagues in the railway and from clients who benefited by his service. Mr. Wells intends to reside in Wanganui. Mr. F. G. Seddon, secretary to the Wanganui Returned Soldiers’ Association, was presented with a pipe, last night, by members of the returned soldiers’ contingent who visited Sydney for the Anzac Day celebrations last month. Mr. Seddon did a great amount of work organising the trip for the Wanganui members of the New Zealand party which sailed aboard the Maunganui and Monowai. Mr. C. S. Brown, who made the presentation at the Tin Hat Club function last night, expressed the appreciation felt by every member at Mr. Seddon’s work and interest in making the trip enjoyable.
