London Buter Market Quiet DECLINE IN PRICES The London butter market was slow and declining throughout last week, according to a cabled report received by the Primary Products Marketing Department. Friday’s closing prices, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follow | New Zealand: Salted, 129 s to 130 s (133 s to 1345; a year ago, 108 s to 109 s); unsalted, 131 s to 132 s (134 s to 1355; a year ago, 109 s to 110 s). Australian: Salted, 126 s to 127 s (131 s unsalted, 128 s (132s>. , Danish, 108 s, f.0.b.; 130 s spot (Ills; 1325). Dutch, unsalted, 1235, ex 127 s (126 s <o 1275). Lithuanian, unsalted, 126 s (128 s Polish: Salted and unsalted, 1225. South African: 121 s to 124 s (126 s to 1295). Retail prices were unchanged, New Zealand and Danish both at Is 4d a lb. The basic rates fixed under the New Zealand guaranteed price scheme, subject to quality differentials, are 123 s 8d for butter, and 70s 4Jd for cheese per cwt., f.0.b., New Zealand currency. The equivalent landed price for butter in London is 112 s and for cheese 675. The guaranateed price for butter is equal to 13.25 d per lb, f.0.b., and the current London quotation is equal to 15.45 d, New Zealand ports. The equivalent price for cheese is around 8.09 d per lb, f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 7.54 d. The quantity of New Zealand butter in store in London, including 118 tons ex Rangitata, was 5426 tons, compared with 6392 tons a year ago. The cheese market was quiet. Friday’s closing quotations, with those ot the previous week in parentheses, were as follow: New Zealand: White, 71s to 71s 6d (70s; a year ago, 73s 6d); coloured, 71s to 71s 6d (70s to 70s 6d; a year ago, 72s 6d to 73s 6d). Australian: White, 67s 6d to 70s (66s to 68s 6d); coloured, 67s to 69s 6d (67s 6d to 6Ss 6d). Canadian: White, 77s to 78s (77s to 78s); coloured, 77s to 79s (77s to 795). English factory cheese, 68s to 70s. The quantity of New Zealand cheese in store was 71,355 crates, as against 103,706 crates a year ago. Canadian cheese in store was 71,163 boxes, as compared with 58,280 boxes a year ago.
