RAIL IMPROVEMENTS

WORKS AT WANGANUI. Various undertakings in the Wanganui railways district are keeping a large number of men in employment. Among some of the more important works in hand is the construction of overbridges at or near Kai Iwi, Spiral, Bonny Glen, Erua, Mokoia, Greatford, Piriaka and Oio. An overbridge has been completed and is now in use near Normanby, in South Taranaki. The construction of subways is proceeding at several points and good progress is being made with the elimination of a level crossing at Waiouru. Stockyard improvements are being effected at Inglewood, Feilding and Raetihi, a new railway dwelling is in course of erection at Owhango, and numerous hot-water installations have been made to departmental dwellings throughout the district. Septic tank drainage connections to the railway dwellings and buildings at Ohakune Junction are now practically completed.
