THE WANGANUI SALE FAT SHEEP SLIGHTLY WEAKER Messrs Freeman R. Jackson ano Co. report on yesterday’s Wanganui sale as follows:—To a good attendance we offered a moderate yarding in all sections. There was a fairly heavy entry of fat sheep with the market slightly weaker. No store sheep were yarded. Fat Cattle. —A fair offering and the market slightly easier, only oddments of stores being yarded and sell ing at late rates. Dairy Cows.—Early calvers sold freely at from 18 10s to £l2. Porkers.—A light entry and prices firm. A light yarding of stores and the market a little firmer. Vealers sold well, fully firm on late rates. Quotations: — Sheep.—Prime ewes, 225, 24s 6d; fat, 18s 3d, 21s; light, 17s 3d, 18s; fat wethers, 4 24s 6d, 25s sd; prime lambs, 245, 245; light, 14s, 20s. There was a large yarding of sheep at Westfield resulting in an easing in the price of wethers by 3s a head, but ewes advanced in price. There was a large yarding of cattle of high quality, for which tnere was a keen demand, showing a rise of £1 10s a head on last week. A larger yarding of calves, though not realising last week’s extreme prices, produced a keen deman at satisfactory prices. There was an increased penning or pigs, for which there was Keen competition at late rates. Extra choice ox sold again at 39s per 1001 b, choice and prime ox 35s to 38s, choice and prime cow and heifer 31s to 365, unfinished 23s to 245; extra heavy prime steers £l3 10s to £l5 2s 6d, heavy prime steers £l2 5s to £l3 2s 6d, medium £ll 5s to £l2 17s 6d, light £lO to £ll 10s; extra heavy prime cows £lO to £l2, heavy £8 to £9 17s 6d, medium £6 to £8 15s, light £5 10s to £7 ss. Though the quality of the wethers offered was good, prices eased on account of the increased yarding. Prime wethers 26s to 36s compared with 39s last week, unfinished wethers 20s to 28s 6d. Prime ewes advanced to 32s 6d from the last quotation of 31s, unfinished 20s to 24s 6d. A very small yarding of lambs brought 18s to 28s for prime and 8s to 18s 6d for unfinished. Calves sold from £2 10s to £7 13s for runners. In an increased yarding of pigs, choppers brought from 45s to 565; heavy prime baconers 68s to 925, medium 78s to 82s, light 68s to 745, heavy porkers 72s to 84s, medium 50s to 70s, light 30s to 50s, stores 16s to 40s. Entries of fat sheep were larger than for some time at to-day’s Addington market, hut. store sheep were forward in small numbers. Store ewes comprised a few pens of ola sorts, which met with little interest, and store lambs were also in the notwanted class, being poor. Store wethers were in keen demand, selling up to 22s 7d. Fat Sheep.—About 4500 were penned and there was a slightly firmer market than last week. Prime wethers, 30s to 335: top, to 37s lOd; good to medium, 29s down to 265. Good ewes sold from 22s to 255; tops, to 295; lightweight) from 18s down to 14s. Fat Cattle.—sss were penned, including a lot of good quality. A sticky sale, values being down by 10s a head. Good steers, £l3 to £l6 15s; medium, £ll 10s to £l3; light, down to £9; best heifers £8 to £10; tops, to £ll 10s; medium. £6 10s to £8 10s; cows, from 10s to 15s and less. Good beef ranged from 33s to 35s per lOOlbs. Fat Pigs.—Porkers were easier by 2s to 3s a head and baconers were correspondingly dearer. Porkers, 29s 6d to 58s 6d; average price, d 6 to 63d per lb. baconers, 59s 6d to £5 2s 6d; average.per lb., 6d to Gid. Store Pigs.—A better sale, particularly for weaners, which made from 5s 6d to 10s 6d. Best stores, to 29s 6d.
