ENGINEER’S ANNUAL REPORT INCREASED WATER CONSUMPTION; HOUSING SURVEY; CITY BRIDGES LESS MONEY FROM EMPLOYMENT PROMOTION FUND Annual reports on Wanganui's municipal works and services and tramways were tabled at a meeting of the City Council yesterday by the city engineer and tramways engineer and manager (Mr. J.. F. Row, A.M.lnst., C.E., A.M.1.E.E.). Comprehensive in nature, both reports set forth in <letail the operations of each department under Mr. Row's supervision. The city's water consumption has greatly increased, the reports show. A short reference has been made to the progress of the housing survey now nearing completion, and Mr. Row has reported in detail on the city bridges. His figures show that the amount of State monies spent in the city from the Employment Promotion Fund is less than in previous years. In regard to tramways. Mr. Row has shown that a loss occurred last year in the operating aeeount. The reports were received by the council and referred forward for consideration by committees. Mr. Row being complimented on compiling so conveniently such a volume of important information. A review of the year experienced by the City Gas Department was also tabled yesterday by the engineer-manager (Mr. W. J. Stone'. This stressed the effect of rising costs, pointing out that while revenue increased expenditure also went up, resulting in a smaller credit than for some vears.
