WANGANUI ROAD CLUB
NEXT SATURDAY’S EVENT On Saturday next the Wanganui Amateur Road Cycling Club will open their 1938 season’s activities with a spin over one circuit of the Kaimatira Road block, which should provide an interesting test for the first of the season. The road is reported to be in good condition and fast times should be registered. The scratch markers will be again represented by Pidwell and Davidson, and judging from the training ridelast week-end the middle markers appear to be in very good form. Dearsley, Danielson, Jeromsen and Beswarick have been getting in plenty of training and should give the scratch bunch plenty of opposition. New riders should note that it is advisable not to ride variable gears for the first few races. If one starts the season with a single fixed gear, and when the races get longer adds variable gears, he will find them to be of greater advantage than if he had used them from the start. A good gear ratio for a first-year rider is 79 inches. From the spectators' point of view Saturday's race should prove to be a very fast and thrilling one and the club invites all persons interested in the sport, to witness it. The race starts at 2.0 p.m. at the Red Lion Inn.
