ADVANTAGES OF ELECTRICITY

COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS Cooking by electricity is no longer a luxury. It is a necessity in modern kitchens. The advantages of cooking by electricity are manifest. It is easy, clean and reliable and gives excellent results. It is not necessary to turn a joint or a cake in an electric oven and several things can be cooked at one and the same lime. The advantages of electricity in the home and for cooking purposes was successfully demonstrated yesterday in the large room upstairs at the Power Board’s offices, St. Hill Street, by Mrs. E. Barrington, of Wellington. Elementary waste in electricity when cooking in the oven was one of the features of the demonstration. After cooking various dishes, Mrs. Barrington gave an informative talk and much helpful information to the audience of women present. In the course of her talk and demonstration she showed how a great amount of electricity can be wasted with faulty saucepans. “You must have a perfect contact with saucepans, for ' bulged and dented vessels are drastic, then the electricity gets the blame for extravagance,” she said. The correct use of the right vessels and useful information in regard to the saving of electricity were demonstrated. Many hints on the preparation of foods, the using of straight-edged dishes in the oven, showing a quick way of rolling walnuts for decoration instead of the tedious methods of chopping, how to make a correct paper cone for icing cakes were a few of the things imparted to her audience. Questions were invited and were eagerly asked. When all had been answered, Mrs. Barrington spoke of the advantages of having hot water on tap; apart from the comfort, the kitchen can be run more economically. She pointed out that the special function of electricity is to make the work of the home less i arduous. { Mrs. Barrington will continue the ! demonstrations this afternoon and every afternoon during the week. /These will prove helpful and instructive to housewives.
