MOUNTED RIFLES CAMP

TROOPS ARRIVE AT KaITOK?<

WET WEATHER EXPERIENCED.

The Second Composite Mounted Rifles Regiment, a combination of th® Queen Alexandra, and East Coast Mounted Rifles, is in camp at Kaitoke, Wanganui, just south of the Airport. Officers and the advance party have been in camp for some days, the main body arriving fram East Coast and Taranaki districts yesterday. A special train with the East Coast quota arrived last night and there will be 350 troops in camp when the full parade strength is reached. The officer commanding is Lieutenant-Col-onel H. B. Maunsell.

Moving-in operations were handicapped to some extent by rain which

began early yesterday afternoon, but the sandy nature of the eountry 111 which the camp is being held will offset any discomfort that, might hav® been experienced in wet weather had the location been elsewhere. The camp is well equipped and has its own elee-, tricity and water supply. The camp activities will commence in real earnest to-day. The East Coast Regimental Band will arrive on May 3. On May 5. 6 and 7 a regimental trek will take place in th® Wangaehu and Turakina Valleys. The transport equipment, some of which arrived yesterday, will include 11 motor-cycles, six light cars, and several trucks. The camp will break up on May 10.
